knowledge is power—and celeste thomas is sharing what she’s learned about clean skincare throughout her personal journey to help be a resource for women looking to achieve healthy skin. we chatted with celeste to learn who inspires her, and why she thinks using clean products can help women feel more confident.
basd: what made you passionate about clean products—specifically clean skincare?
celeste thomas: my lifetime struggle with acne inspired me to learn everything i can about skincare in the medical capacity by becoming a registered nurse and in the holistic capacity through extensive research into holistic and alternative treatments. what i have truly learned though all of my education is that the system of skincare and beauty is broken and that the average consumer is victim to the perils of greenwashing, unsafe products, and the detrimental long term effects of exposure to toxins in products. i am passionate about sharing my knowledge about skincare to be the resource to women that i didn't have when i was suffering with debilitating acne. i want to prevent other women from falling victim to the unjust practices of the skincare industry, keep them safe, and help them achieve healthy skin they are confident in.
b: what’s your definition of a strong woman?
ct: a strong woman is a woman who lives an intuition centered lifestyle, who trusts her all-knowing internal compass in all decisions and is brave enough to follow through with desires or her heart. someone who honors her innate capabilities by identifying her mission, fostering her passions, and supporting other women without jealousy.
b: who inspires you?
ct: all mothers inspire me. i am an only child who focuses much of my energy on my health, my career, my interests, my relationships, so my life is honestly very self-centered. mothers are so selfless with their bodies, time, truly their entire lives and it's a selflessness that awe inspires me!
b: do you have a favorite quote or mantra?
ct: i don't, but one thing that i often remind myself when dealing with self-doubt is that we are all human and perfection is a construct, if you want to do something just try your best.
b: if you could tell your younger self something, what would it be?
ct: i wouldn't go back and tell myself anything. i am so proud of each lesson and experience that has brought me to where i am today.
b: what’s one skin-care product you can’t live without?
ct: at home chemical exfoliant masks, they help keep my acne prone skin clear by increasing cell turnover.
b: do you have a morning routine?
ct: yes! i am an early bird and mornings are very sacred to me. i wake up in the 6 o'clock hour, drink a hot water to increase gi motility, do a 10-minute mindfulness meditation, have a matcha, and spend some time with my husband and puppy girl before most of the world wakes up, it's bliss.
